Below, Decorpad.com and Housebeautiful.com have wonderful examples of calming spaces. Note that often white is interjected into these spaces complimenting the mood and not subtracting from or competing with the overall design.
The living room below, by Beazlyhome.com is another beautiful example of an analogous color scheme. Pink, purple, blue and green are the four color elements in this room which are next to each other on the color wheel. Notice that most of the coloring is in shades of lavender while the blues, pinks and greens are just little accents to give the room interest. Notice, again, the white moldings, the white lamp shades and cream club chair in the foreground which allow your eyes a place to rest.
Maybe your room for relaxation has hints of an analogous color scheme but isn't quite looking or feeling relaxed. Try removing the elements that do not represent an analogous color scheme and replace them with items that do. You may have plenty of elements to choose from in rooms throughout your house already. If your room seems a little busy, maybe too colorful, try adding some white elements to give your eyes a place to rest.
